Dear Parent/Guardian:

Children need healthy meals to learn. MEWA now offers healthy meals every school day. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals. If you have not filled out the attached school meal application form, please complete the information and send it in or drop it off at our office location: 1394 NW Civic Dr, Gresham. 

Some parents are concerned about listing income amounts and social security numbers on the application.  Any personal information you provide will not be shared.  Free and reduced price meal applications are confidential.  Your information will only be used to determine your child’s eligibility for the school meal programs.  We cannot share your information without your written permission.  Students receiving free and reduced price meals are not identified.  No other staff, students or teachers need to know who is receiving free or reduced meals.  MEWA offers meals to all students at no cost to the student or families. 

There are two important reasons why we ask families to fill out this form:

• If your child qualifies for free or reduced priced lunches, he or she qualifies for free or reduced deposit on laptops the school loans out for the school year.
• Your child may receive other school benefits. The number of applications returned and approved can affect how much funding our school gets to help students meet benchmarks, including materials like computers and Wi-Fi service to families. It will also help staff, like our teachers, qualify for federal loan forgiveness programs so MEWA can continue to retain our fabulous teaching staff!
